Sustainability at Bihl+Wiedemann
At Bihl+Wiedemann, we not only consider it our duty, but also a matter of course, that we go beyond the mere business activity and our legal obligations. Our goal is to make a positive contribution to society and the environment through sustainable business practices. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a fundamental element of our corporate culture and has a significant impact on our activities.
Would you like to learn more about how we implement our sustainable goals at Bihl+Wiedemann? We have put together additional information on this topic under the headings 'Environmental Responsibility' and 'Decarbonization':
Environmental Responsibility and Decarbonization
We are guided by the three pillars of sustainability: ecological, social and economic.
1. Ecological Sustainability
Our primary goal is to protect the environment and promote biodiversity. We focus on eliminating emissions in the form of exhaust air and wastewater, as well as on conserving resources, whether in terms of water or raw material consumption. The deliberate use of hazardous substances is minimized through substitution testing. Recycling also plays an important role at Bihl+Wiedemann. Our products are based on AS-Interface, a standardized fieldbus system for the first level of automation. AS-Interface connects sensors and actuators to a control system via a single two-wire profile cable. This eliminates the need for parallel wiring and helps to conserve further resources. Through our sustainable approach, we not only help to protect the environment, but also to keep people healthy.
2. Social Sustainability
We put people at the forefront of everything we do. We are committed to the health and safety of our employees. Equal opportunities, fair wages and adequate working hours are a matter of course for us. We respond flexibly to the wishes of our employees. We absolutely don't tolerate any violations of human rights such as exploitation, discrimination, forced or child labor along our supply chain.
3. Economic Sustainability
Through sustainable business practices, we want to facilitate environmentally friendly investments and provide fair wages. We attach great value to the use of high quality raw materials and fair trade. Wherever possible, we establish a regional approach to purchasing. In this way, we want to improve people's quality of life and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
Code of Conduct
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we have implemented a Code of Conduct (CoC) at Bihl+Wiedemann. This CoC acts as a guideline for our legally compliant and ethically sound actions. It should also serve as a guideline for our suppliers if they do not have their own CoC. We implement the ZVEI-VDMA CoC, which was jointly developed by the German Electrical and Digital Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI) and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA).
German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (LkSG)
Although we are currently not affected by the LkSG in a direct way, we are already complying with our duty of care and have our supply chain controlled by a service provider recommended by ZVEI (see certificate).
Corporate Citizenship
With targeted social initiatives and donations, we help people in need and promote young talent. Our involvement in charitable projects helps to improve people's well-being and continuously enhance the quality of life in our society.
Sustainability Portals
We are listed on two of the major portals that record and monitor sustainability criteria: IntegrityNext and EcoVadis.
IntegrityNext enables companies to qualify their suppliers, as well as control and manage compliance with sustainability criteria along the supply chain.
EcoVadis is one of the world's largest providers of sustainability ratings for companies.
