Danish brewery saves over 2.5 km of cable thanks to ASi

Skanderborg Bryghus launched its business in April 2019. The Danish brewery and its installation were drawn up and built by the brewery specialists at GEA Process Engineering A/S. Thanks to an AS-Interface solution by Bihl+Wiedemann, the company was able to save more than 2.5 km of cable. Only 99 meters of cable were required, whereas for a conventional solution with several I/O fields would have been necessary around 2,670 meters of cable.

ASi Network connects all instruments and sensors

All of the brewery's processes, including the ASi master and motors, are controlled by two Siemens PLCs via PROFINET. The 33 fermentation and storage tanks used, the three kettles and all system components are connected to each other via a system of 744 pneumatically operated process valves. Eight ASi masters from Bihl+Wiedemann control this system. The ASi network also links together instruments and sensors that record the process data from each fermentation tank, such as the pressure, level and temperature.

The major cable savings are due to the fact that the ASi solution only uses one single 5-wire round cable under each row of tanks – for the ASi bus and 24 V DC. The simple installation also helped to save many hours of work.

Waterworks increase safety and flexibility with ASi-5

The Englerup waterworks in Vestsjaelland, Denmark, has installed a new SCADA control system – with an AS-Interface solution at its heart. All pumps, valves and other components are now connected in a network that is controlled by an ASi master. The cabling effort was minimal because the 2-wire ASi cable transports both data and power. Expanding the system is also easy, as one ASi Master can manage more than 100 devices.

ASi-5 guides storage and retrieval machine safely through the aisles

Klinkhammer Intralogistics relies on safety solutions from Bihl+Wiedemann for the new storage and retrieval machine (SRM) in an automated high-bay warehouse. ASi-5 Safety Gateways connected via Safe Link enable safe communication between the moving stacker crane and the control cabinet. Accelerating and decelerating the stacker crane as quickly as possible maximizes the throughput of goods.

ASi-5 simplifies RIELEC installations

Thanks to the ASi-5 technology, RIELEC Logistic Systems reduces installation costs and increases the flexibility of its projects. One of the key benefits of AS-Interface is that it enables machines to be assembled and disassembled quickly and easily. In addition, signals of all types can be easily integrated into the communication bus. The RIELEC Fit Sorter package sorter uses ASi-5 to control LED strips and to monitor conveyor belt sections. The ASi-5 gateways are responsible for collecting process and diagnostic information which is then transmitted to both the PLC and the cloud.

Predictive maintenance thanks to ASi-5 and IO-Link

SPAX International produces up to 50 million screws each day. To make the machines in production Industry 4.0-capable, the company relies on ASi-5/ASi-3 PROFINET gateways with an integrated safety monitor and compact IO-Link masters. The machines can be easily converted and now facilitate predictive maintenance. In addition to digital information, IO-Link devices can now also provide process and diagnostic values.

Danish brewery saves over 2.5 km of cable thanks to ASi

Ardo A/S are now saving forklift time in their freezer room

Thanks to an ASi solution from Bihl+Wiedemann, food manufacturer Ardo A/S saves time when using forklift trucks in the freezer room. The ASi system, which controls a total of 30 Lenze Smart Motors, works reliably at all times, even at minus 20 degrees. It comprises two powered conveyor belts inside and two palletizing machines outside the freezer room.

Building materials company simplifies wiring thanks to ASi

LIP Bygningsartikler saves now 22% of the total cost on their conveyor modules thanks to an ASi solution from Bihl+Wiedemann. Each module and the complete system is connected through an ASi network with integrated safety from Bihl+Wiedemann. New conveyor modules can be added simply without additional wiring from the main PLC.
