The benefits of AS-Interface – such as the simple, cost-saving installation and high degree of flexibility – have now established themselves in building automation. Numerous companies are already using the ASi installation system, for example for controlling fire and smoke dampers, shutter drives or heating and cooling ceilings using analog output modules. Damper drives with flow regulators can be connected to the controller through the MP-Bus gateway. It is also possible to process EnOcean signals from wireless pushbuttons and sensors over ASi. In the case of power intensive applications, Bihl+Wiedemann recommends the use of a 30 V power supply without 100 W power limitation in combination with a power limitation module (BWU4189) for each ASi network.The power supply is optimized for use with ASi-5/ASi-3 gateways and safety monitors with integrated decoupling coils (version "1 power supplies, 1 gateway for 2 ASi networks, inexpensive power supplies") and with all 24 V ASi-5/ASi-3 gateways. In order to avoid interferences in ASi-5 communication, Bihl+Wiedemann recommends the use of power supplies optimized for ASi-5/ASi-3.


"ASi power supply decoupling unit":

Supply of 2 ASi networks out of 1 power supply. Applicable with double masters without integrated data decoupling.


"Power decoupling unit":

For ASi modules with two ASi-3 nodes, the second ASi-3 node is turned off as long as the first ASi-3 node is addressed to address "0".
Upon request, ASi modules are available with specific ASi node profiles.

Connection

Under normal conditions (no bus termination or repeater), the permissible total length of the ASi segment is max. 100 m. The calculation should take into consideration that the length of the connection cable (round cable) for each connected passive distributor must be doubled.

In the case of the active distributors (ASi modules) however only the one ASi profile cable is counted.

In the case of power intensive applications, Bihl+Wiedemann recommends the use of a 30 V power supply without 100 W power limitation in combination with a power limitation module (BWU4189) for each ASi network.The power supply is optimized for use with ASi-5/ASi-3 gateways and safety monitors with integrated decoupling coils (version "1 power supplies, 1 gateway for 2 ASi networks, inexpensive power supplies") and with all 24 V ASi-5/ASi-3 gateways. In order to avoid interferences in ASi-5 communication, Bihl+Wiedemann recommends the use of power supplies optimized for ASi-5/ASi-3.


    "ASi power supply decoupling unit":

    Supply of 2 ASi networks out of 1 power supply. Applicable with double masters without integrated data decoupling.


    "Power decoupling unit":

    Take up to 1,2 A out of ASi. In combination with an ASi Repeater: decouples 1,2 A from ASi Segment B and supplies Segment A with 1,2 A.

  • 13Input voltage (sensor supply)

    inputs are supplied by ASi or by AUX (24 V or 48 V auxiliary power). If supplied by ASi, inputs shall not be connected to earth or to external potential.

  • 14Output voltage (actuator supply)

    Electronic outputs are supplied by ASi or by AUX (24 V or 48 V auxiliary power). If supplied by ASi, outputs shall not be connected to earth or to external potential.

     

    For relay outputs the relay contacts are initiated from ASi. The load circuit is powered externally as specified in the data sheet.

  • 15ASi address

    Bihl+Wiedemann offers modules with AB address, single address or ASi-5 address. In some cases, ASi modules can occupy several (different) addresses. Mixed operation of modules with different addressing in the same ASi circuit is permitted.
    For ASi modules with two ASi-3 nodes, the second ASi-3 node is turned off as long as the first ASi-3 node is addressed to address "0".
    Upon request, ASi modules are available with specific ASi node profiles.

  • 16Flat design, installation in cable duct possible

    Modules with a flat housing design and with cables which exit the sides make these ideal for installation in cable ducts, cable channels, cable troughs, cable rails or cable trays. Please note the respective housing depth for your particular installation.

  • 17LED status display

    Display of the status of the inputs/outputs, ASi communication or peripheral errors and the status of the AUX supply according to the ASi specification.

  • 18Round cable

    Under normal conditions (no bus termination or repeater), the permissible total length of the ASi segment is max. 100 m. The calculation should take into consideration that the length of the connection cable (round cable) for each connected passive distributor must be doubled.

    In the case of the active distributors (ASi modules) however only the one ASi profile cable is counted.

  • 19Profile cable connection

    The module has connections for ASi and/or AUX profile cables to supply data and (auxiliary) power. Depending on the design, the devices also have an integrated profile cable derivation.
