What is PROFINET?

PROFINET is an open Industrial Ethernet standard developed by Siemens and the PROFIBUS User Organization e.V. (PNO). PROFINET uses TCP/IP, is real-time capable, and allows devices from different manufacturers to communicate without any special interface adaptations. The concept behind PROFINET is a modular one, so that the user can decide which functionality to use. PROFINET is used to connect decentralized peripherals to a control system. The standard is used in the manufacturing industry, process industry, and logistics for the efficient control and monitoring of production processes.

Safety, PROFINET ASi Gateways

The certified ASi gateways with integrated safety monitor are available in different versions with protection class IP20. All gateways feature the Safe Link technology, which makes it possible to connect different system components easily and flexibly. Some product variants offer integrated PROFIsafe communication for easy integration of the safe signals into the F-CPU.

GE Digital Achilles® Robustness Test (Level 1 and 2, Version No.

Ethernet fieldbus interface (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP) and Ethernet diagnostic interface of the ASi-5/ASi-3 gateways are submitted to strict robustness testing via the Achilles Test Software to ensure robustness against vulnerabilities to cyber attacks. The field update capabilities of the gateway enable continuous firmware and security updates to continuously improve the functionality and robustness of the device.

PROFINET Master Simulator

The PROFINET Master Simulator is an easy to use software for data exchange with PROFINET devices of many suppliers.

 

The PROFINET Master Simulator can exchange data with many PROFINET devices even without a PROFINET Master. Furthermore the PROFINET Master Simulator also processes GSD-files as well as the input of special configurations to start the data exchange with PROFINET devices. Identification, renaming and address assignment of PROFINET devices is also possible.

 

Furthermore, the data, in particular the diagnostic function can be displayed binary, hexadecimal and now also as ASCII code. Output data can be transmitted consistently.

 

In jog mode, it is possible to keep outputs active for exactly as long as the mouse button is pressed. The PROFINET Master Simulator Plus additionally supports PROFIsafe modules, a log function for I/O data, and the transmission of acyclic data (Record Data CR).

 

However as the PROFINET Master Simulator is a monitoring and commissioning tool for PROFINET devices, it is not designed to control automation processes.
